Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name!
Psalm 103:1
David understood the power of praise and worship. In his highest times, He praised the Lord! In his lowest times, He praised the Lord! He had a special relationship with the Lord because He spent many hours in His presence in worship & praise. David knew the Lord intimately because He spent many hours in His presence. God said of David that He was a man after His own heart.
God desires your worship and your praise. He created you to worship Him, to commune with Him. If you want to do great things for and with the Lord, you must be a worshiper. Without worship, your relationship with the Lord will grow dull and lifeless. It's communication with Him in high form because you are acknowledging Who He is and What He's done and What He's going to do. True worship puts everything in proper perspective. He is Lord! There is none like Him! He never changes! He is worthy! He is holy!
A time will come, however, indeed it is already here, when the true (genuine) worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth (reality); for the Father is seeking just such people as these as His worshipers. John 4:23
I want to encourage you to worship in spirit and in truth. If you control everything that goes on in your worship, you are not worshiping in spirit. It's just like prayer. We tend to make our prayer time a one-way line; we never listen to hear what God has to say. In worship, we often stick to what's comfortable for us or what we've always done. All the while, God is moving upon your spirit to experience Him in a new way. He's trying to tell you something personal. He's trying to give you an answer to your problem. He's trying to remind you about how much He loves you. He's trying to heal your disease and relieve you of depression. Yet, you miss out on all of this because you are not worshiping in spirit.
Oh, how I love worship! I hope that you love it too. I pray that you will find yourself in the midst of some awesome, life-changing, power-bringing worship that just knocks your socks off!
