A lower power cannot compass the full understanding of a higher. But to limit one's belief to the bounds of one's own small powers, would be to tie oneself down to the foot of a tree, and deny the existence of its upper branches.
I want to encourage you today, to NOT limit your beliefs to only the things that you understand. There are so many things about the Lord and His ways that are difficult for us to fathom with our minds and understand them because He's omniscient. Our minds are finite; they have a definite end. He is infinite, and there is no end to Him and His knowledge. He's the Creator of all and all, and we, His creation, can only understand so much about Him. Our minds don't have the capacity to understand Him in full.
Even where you cannot understand the wonderful powers themselves, you may have the grace to believe in their existence, from their wonderful results.
We don't have to understand everything about the Lord and everything about what He does and how He does it to believe that He exists, He is Who He says He is, and He does what He says He does. Our knowledge and understanding do not have to limit our beliefs!
Many times, we want to UNDERSTAND why things happen, or UNDERSTAND why someone speaks in tongues, or UNDERSTAND why men in the Old Testament had multiple wives, or UNDERSTAND why we have to suffer persecution, or UNDERSTAND how the end of the end of the world we live in is going to unfold. We tend to have a mindset that if I can't understand it then it's not God. Oh, how wrong this is!
But you should not fancy either that you do know everything, or that you are able to know everything. And, above all, you should not dispute the superiority and powers of other creatures merely because you cannot understand them.
Just because we don't understand why it seems that some get miraculously healed by the Lord and others don't doesn't mean that we just dump the whole concept of miracles, signs, and wonders. Just because our natural mind can't understand a message given in tongues doesn't mean it's not of God. Just because we don't understand prophetic and intercessory worship doesn't mean that it is not God designed and ordained.
You may not understand everything about the Lord. You may not understand everything you go through. You may not understand everything that happens in a worship service. Yet, you don't have to let the limitations of your understanding limit your belief! As we seek understanding, God reveals many things to us. Yet, we MUST seek revelation and understanding. It's our responsibility to seek the knowledge of the Lord.
And He said to them, Be careful what you are hearing. The measure [of thought and study] you give [to the truth you hear] will be the measure [of virtue and knowledge] that comes back to you - and more [besides] will be given to you who hear.
Mark 4:24
He says that we have been given the mind of Christ. Therefore, many things we can see through His mind, but we still don't and can't always understand everything. I encourage you, however, to not let your understanding limit your belief in the Lord and His power and His ability and His character and His work. You may not ever understand it all, but you can believe it all!
